Record gun ownership brings record low of murders in 2009

December 31st, 2009 in Freedom, Guns ~ (2) Comments

According to the NRA, the FBI is reporting that 2009 may turn out to be the greatest annual decrease in murders since 1960. Non-coincidentally, 2009 also saw an all-time high in privately-owned firearms. The firearms that were most commonly purchased in 2009 are those that gun control supporters most want to be banned—AR-15s, similar semi-automatic rifles, and handguns designed for defense.

I find this ironic and rather amusing. Apparently, Obama’s election has indirectly reduced murders in the US, because as the “bitter gun-clingers” prepare for whatever instability the uncertain future may hold, criminals are afraid to attack an armed populace.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Amendment II to the U.S. Constitution)
